A male northern cardinal on a fence post in the snow. I have an incurable lung disease which severely limits my mobility, so I set up several bird feeders in a small grove next to my window. That way I can take photos through that window of all the birds who visit. I captured this guy resting during a snowfall and loved the brightness of his feathers against the gray and white of the background. Cardinals are the most abundant birds here and with their vivid red colors, they make my gray days beautiful too.

Upped the contrast a little bit and sharpened the image a little bit in GIMP.
