One of the hi-lights of tonight's observing session: The starfield between Mirfak (alpha Persei) and Capella (alpha Aurigae). Great region to explore with binoculars or a small scope.
Note the string of 7th and 8th magnitude stars between epsilon Persei and Mirfak. One of the students commented that it looks like a chain attached to a Superman pendant. Very good observer! Many of the students look at things, but don't actually SEE them. Luckily, seeing is a skill that can be learned.
The 7° FOV is typical of 8x40 binoculars; my first choice for exploring star fields.
