These fine Open Clusters are among the closest and brightest in the Heavens, and this view is one of my favourite subjects for a star portrait.
The Pleiades has 6 members that are magnitude +4 or brighter. The Hyades has 10!
Orange giant Aldebaran is not a member of the Hyades. It's in the foreground. At 150 light-years away, the Hyades is more than twice the distance of Aldebaran.
All the stars in this image can be viewed with a modest pair of binoculars.
