While walking home from a friend's house one night, I noticed a big halo around the moon. When I got home, I set up a camera and tripod outside and tried a few different settings to see if I could capture the halo before it disappeared. The next day I checked the image files and sure enough, I had managed to capture the halo with an older mid-range digital camera and cheap tripod! The only real flaw, other than the trees and our chimney, was one area that seems to be moonlight reflecting/refracting within the glass lens.
