Letterbox Sunset followed by Crepuscular Rays - Part 1
Against all the odds after a day of widespread cloud and rain, the setting sun managed to break through a very narrow gap in a band of cloud near the south western horizon to produce a three minute ‘letterbox’ sunset. After a quarter of an hour during which the horizon became dull, cloudy and grey again, crepuscular rays began to develop in clearing blue sky above. These rapidly increased in intensity to produce a brightly colored radiating post-sunset display which lasted for a few minutes before fading as twilight approached.
