Sirius (lower left center) at just past midnight last night, 2 January 2019, in Canis Major (includes 3 nearest stars). Other stars: Procyon (brighter of the two stars in upper left) in Canis Minor (includes other star), and Betelgeuse (higher of the two stars in upper right), a red giant whose magnitude has been dimming the last decade, leading to speculation that it may go supernova in the next few years/decades. Betelgeuse is in the constellation Orion (upper right), marking one of Orion’s shoulders. Orion’s 3-star Belt is easily recognized; the lower right star in Orion is the blue giant Rigel, marking one of his knees. Taken using my iPhone6s using the NightCamera app.
