To get this shot requires a 45-minute walk along the beach . . . Which is a lovely thing to do at 2:00 a.m. on a clear night. The park staff had strung Christmas lights near the top of the lighthouse, which really blew out my normal astro settings. But even dialed down, the stars look pretty amazing. The yellow tag pattern emerging from the base was caused by a passing cloud. You can see a bright magenta patch above the light, which was Orion slowly moving through. And to the left of that you can see the bright streak left by Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky.
