Messier 41 is a very easy open star cluster to find. If you have 7x or 8x binoculars, just point them at Sirius. M41 will be in the same field of view; just 4° south of the star. You can't miss it.
I call M41 the "Heart of the Dog". Another one of my personal astronomical monikers.
