I setup my 20 X 150 binoculars on a beach near the waters edge on the Gulf of Mexico and watched the 2% New Moon drop behind veils of thin clouds and clear blue sky 1/2 hour after sunset. As the evening descended into twilight the planets Venus and Jupiter appeared brilliantly in the western sky trailing along the ecliptic, shortly behind the setting moon. As the sliver of the 2% crescent moon descended into the salt haze on the horizon over the Gulf. The slivers of the crescent moon began to emanate mottled red, green and blue hues in its descending crescents edge as the occurrence of the bending of the moons light from it's line of sight light curve was occurring over the horizon as it sank into the western Gulf waters.

I have been hunting 1% daytime, dawn and twilight 'New Moons' as a astronomical observational phenomena for several years now. I have come to discover that a 15 to 17 hour old new moon is quite a difficult astronomical candidate to capture and observe. But those observers who are fortunate enough to experience it., Will all agree that there is a special beauty in the slender appearance of the 1% to 2% whisper of any new moon. Today's New Moon 2.2% illuminated., 32.00 Hours old observation with my 20 X 150 binoculars was incredible.
