Much has been said in EarthSky articles regarding Capella's characteristics and mythology. What I can tell you is that Capella is the closest 1st magnitude star to the celestial North Pole. And, if you're north of Buffalo, NY, it's circumpolar (never sets). But if you're in South Africa you may never see it.
The 3 Messier objects are beautiful Open Clusters thru any instrument.
UU Auriga is a very cool (<3,000°C) red carbon star that shows great color contrast with surrounding stars thru binoculars.
