This extends the recent Eart-Sky Discussion of viewing the daytime Moon. It is a small scale/ astronomical scale demo of the origin of the phases of the Moon using a golf ball. The 3rd quarter moon is in both photos. Try it when the Moon is next at 3rd quarter. It even works for the full Moon.
It is part of a teaching article, Tactile Astronomy Demos: "Stars like Grains of Sugar" plus "Ball and Sun Lunar Phases." Gene Byrd 2019 Journal of the Wash. Academy of Sciences, vol. 105, p. 1. See

Taken with ordinary Moto cell phone.
Two photos patched together. One shows the daytime 3rd quarter moon. The other is a close up of the 3rd quarter golf ball and distant moon with the ball in the same direction as the moon.
