The Alpha Persei Cluster is #8 on my Favorite Binocular Targets list.
You really need binoculars to enjoy the entire cluster, which is as wide as 6 Full Moons!
Alpha Persei is a yellow super-giant sun that is 60x larger than our star (which happens to be a yellow dwarf).
Note the cool "S" pattern formed by 5th and 6th magnitude members of this cluster.
You do not need a very dark sky to view this cluster. And if you live north of Piscataway, N. J. it's circumpolar (never sets). Check it out. This is one of those Celestial wonders that does not get the attention it deserves.
