While scanning the sky for Perseids I couldn't help but notice the glow of the Andromeda Galaxy. If you can find Mirach (β And), you can find this galaxy (only 7.5° NW). The Triangulum Galaxy is the same distance in the opposite direction, but you really need a dark site
and a transparent sky to detect it's soft glow.
Caldwell 28 is a nice Open Cluster that Charles Messier somehow missed when he was cataloging fuzzy objects which could be mistaken for comets (he didn't miss the Triangulum Galaxy, which he listed as M33).
All 3 of these objects are great binocular targets!
Speaking of time travel, here are some distances to consider:
Mirach-198 LYs
C28-1300LYs
Andromeda Galaxy- 2,500,000LYs
Triangulum Galaxy- 2,700,000LYs
Give or take a few years. I'm a First Approximation kind of guy (I use 3.14 as the value of π for all my calculations at the grocery store).
What else can I say? Oh yeah. I saw many meteors but was unable to image any. Only the ubiquitous artificial satellites. Such is life!
