Partial Eclipse of the Moon
On Tuesday 16th July there was a partial eclipse of the Moon all of which was visible from Africa. In Mutare the umbral phase, during which the shadow of the Earth is projected on to the Moon, commenced at 10.00 pm, reached a maximum of 65% at 11.30 pm and ended at 1.00 am. Viewing conditions were perfect with clear sky but very cold wind blowing from the north east. The accompanying 4 frame mosaic compiled from pictures taken between 10.00 and 11.30 pm show the moon being progressively covered by the Earth’s shadow until only 35 % remained.
