I think that everyone in the EarthSky community is familiar with the sound of the cicada. This is a cicada nymph I happened to dig up while planting some coriander in the Observatory garden.
Fascinating creatures. They live underground for years, then emerge to annoy us. Note the powerful front claws they develop for digging! Since this little guy was kind enough to sit still for a portrait, I returned him back to the Earth.
