The razor thin crescent Moon, barely 1.14 days old, still perfectly visible as it sets into the far away trees in the mountains of the Karaburun peninsula as seen from Urla, on the Western coast of Turkey. In addition to showing an exceptionally clear atmosphere, this is also important in the region as it signals the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Urla is the site of the ancient city of Klazomenai, the birthplace of the philosopher and astronomer Anaxagoras.
