Asteroid 2 Pallas is just past opposition, making it the brightest minor planet currently in the sky. At magnitude +7.9, it's an easy target to locate and follow as it passes near the bright star eta Bootes. This image is not very compelling unless you have some concept of cosmic dimensions. If Light Years were scaled down to miles, eta Boo would be 37 miles away, 7 Boo would be 690 miles away, HIP 67979 would be 1,875 miles away and Pallas would be 200 feet away!
