Incredible mystery ice patterns on Gaspereau Lake. I came across these linear ice patterns on Gaspereau lake while skating on Tuesday Feb. 12, they were totally frozen into the ice and the ice surface was perfectly smooth. My theory is that when the ice was thinner, the ice sheet was broken up by wind and warm temperatures and that high winds pushed the sheets towards shore and they piled up together in a narrow channel of open water near the shore and turned on edge when there was no more room, then a current or flow of water and wind caused them to move in one direction and align. When the temperature dropped the water between the sheets froze gluing them together.
